Tuesday (12-14-21) Christmas program 6:30 (students should be at school 6:15)

Wednesday (12-15-21) Virtual Christmas Program students are encouraged to wear Christmas colors. Please send in socks for the exchange by this day.

Thursday (12-16-21) Polar Express day in Kindergarten; students can wear their pajamas to school. We will also have our class party that day and sock exchange. Book baggies for both books are due this day and we will keep them until after the break.

Friday (12-17-21) Winter Wonderland.

Book baggies will need to be returned Thursday (12-2-21) for Zip and Friday for library books. Students have a goal of 2.5  points.  Each library book they read is worth .5 points, if they make a 100%.  If students have met this goal, I will be sending home a book buck chart on Friday. This  is something students earn after making their goal. The chart tells you how much you need to save in order to get prizes. This quarter the highest amount of book bucks a child could earn is 3 book bucks. Students would have had to make a 100 on every quiz taken so far. Both this quarter and next, we will have assigned days to return library books. In the last quarter of school students have a point goal and can read as quickly as they want to make their goal (no assigned day). We start book bucks now to get them excited about earning book bucks when their goal is higher.

 I will send home the chart on Friday after the AR quizzes to any student who has made their goal.

In your child’s folder is word list 5. I encourage you to listen as your child blends those letters to say the word.

Students should be reading both The Big Trip and their library book each night, along with reviewing sight words.

Please send your child’s turkey in disguise back tomorrow if you didn’t today.

Reading Update

 

Reading update:

 

Students took their comprehension test today. I let everyone get a sticker because this was their first attempt. In the future, if students do not pass the quiz, 60% or higher, they will not earn a sticker.

 

When reading the decodable books, if students do not score 80% or higher, they will not earn a sticker. Students should be reading both books every night.

 

Sight words will continue to progress each week. There will be at least five new words each week. It is very important they master these each week to keep from falling behind.

 

Nightly homework should include: reading the decodable book, reading the library book, practicing sight words!

 

All of these things greatly impact your child’s success in Kindergarten!

 

Please keep the yellow reading log, and the two books in the baggie at all times.

Tomorrow is picture remake day for anyone who missed the first one.

In your child’s folder is word list 1. We do a new word list every Monday, this helps me to see if students are able to blend sounds to make words and anything they need to work on. I recommend that they go over these with you as well. There are typically one or two words that are sight words.  Those are the ones on the list that are circled. 

Phonics readers will be returned to school on Thursday. Library books will be returned on Friday. You can have both books in the bag on THursday, but we will only read the phonics reader and get a new one of those on Thursday. 

Parent teacher conferences are scheduled for October 26th from 3:00-6:00. These are 10 minute meetings. They can be over the phone or in person. Please call the office to schedule your appointment or you can email me for a time.

We will be able to dress up for Halloween. We will celebrate on Friday October, 29th. We have fun activities planned throughout the day and will trick or treat door to door to teacher’s classrooms. If you would like to send something for a snack that day, please let me know and I will let you know what is needed. If you know what you want to send you can let me know that too.

Mañana es el día de la nueva versión de la imagen para cualquiera que se haya perdido la primera.

En la carpeta de su hijo está la lista de palabras 1. Hacemos una nueva lista de palabras todos los lunes, esto me ayuda a ver si los estudiantes pueden combinar sonidos para formar palabras y cualquier cosa en la que necesiten trabajar. Les recomiendo que también los revisen con usted. Por lo general, hay una o dos palabras que son palabras reconocibles a la vista. Esos son los que están en la lista que están encerrados en un círculo.

Los lectores de fonética regresarán a la escuela el jueves. Los libros de la biblioteca se devolverán el viernes. Puede tener ambos libros en la bolsa el jueves, pero solo leeremos el lector de fonética y obtendremos uno nuevo el jueves.

On the back of the behavior chart are week one sight words. We use the systematic sight word program. We cover 23 weeks of sight words in Kindergarten and then our first grade teachers complete the program next year. Each week your child will have around 5 sight words and sentences that they need to memorize. On Friday I will assess each student. All students will be learning the same sight words. We do activities throughout the week using our sight words and students are able to see them in written text. It is very important that students practice sight words every day at home. I suggest creating flash cards each week with the sight words on them. As we learn new words, add those to the flash cards and then review them all. On friday, please keep your child's behavior chart so you will have a running list of all sight words and sentences that we are and have covered.

We finish up letter names and sounds. Anything your child needs to work on is highlighted on the behavior chart. Please work on those each day. I would love to come back from fall break with all students knowing all letter names and sounds. After fall break we begin learning the rules of phonics.

If you did not send back the habitat project please do so soon. Students are sharing those on Friday. I was very impressed with the ones I saw today. The kids were excited to show those off.

Terminamos con los nombres de las letras y los sonidos. Cualquier cosa en la que su hijo necesite trabajar está resaltada en la tabla de comportamiento. Por favor, trabaje en ellos todos los días. Me encantaría volver de las vacaciones de otoño con todos los estudiantes sabiendo todos los nombres y sonidos de las letras. Después de las vacaciones de otoño comenzamos a aprender las reglas de la fonética.

Si no devolvió el proyecto de hábitat, hágalo pronto. Los estudiantes los compartirán el viernes. Quedé muy impresionado con los que vi hoy. Los niños estaban emocionados de mostrarlos.
