Kindergarten News

This week’s content:

• Reading & Science: Our 5 Senses
• Writing: Practicing our names with correct letter formation
• Math: Shapes
• Phonics: Ll, Oo, Gg, Hh

• Homework:  Writing your name with proper formation

Notes: 

• Your child brought name homework today.  We have been practicing using proper letter formation and our handwriting lines in class.  Along with the homework you will a letter formation guide as a reference sheet. Please have your child to trace their name 3 times, and then write it independently 3 times.  Check to ensure that your child is forming their letters correctly, this is very difficult to unlearn if they are not forming them correctly.

• Beginning next week I will mark the letters we have previously covered in class that your child can name and identify the letter sound.  Above you will find those letters listed that we are working on in class this week. Please review these with your child. An easy way to do this is to make flashcards for each capital and lowercase letter.  Your child can then practice matching the partner letters and identifying their letter sound. Along with the letter formation guide you will also find a letter sound guide with a key word for each letter.

• Tomorrow, August 20th, will be school picture day.  If you have not yet returned your child’s order envelope please do so in their folder in the morning.  The background is more of a gray color. 

• Tomorrow, August 20th, is also the back to school swim party at Oak Hills from 6:00-7:30. The cost is $5.00 per person and the snack bar will be open.

• Friday, August 23rd, will be Donuts with Dad at 7:00.

• No school Monday, September 2 for Labor Day.

Reading: Alphabet books and books about colors

Math: Shapes and counting

Homework: All about me person and letter bags

On the return side of your child’s folder is a behavior chart. I use this daily to let you know if there are any issues at school or if your child had to miss recess. If a box is not checked, then that means that rule was not followed. I typically write a note to let you know why a box is not checked.

We will be working this week to use correct letter formation when writing our name. Please encourage this at home. J

The all about me person is due by Wednesday.

Tonight your child is bringing home homework that is due Friday. There is a bag with a letter explaining the homework. Please let me know if you have any questions.

If your child signed up for running club, I am sending home a permission slip for them to stay on Thursdays for that club. If you sign the form, they will begin staying this Thursday. You will not need to send a note each time, unless you do not want them to stay that day. If you did not sign up for running club, but would like to have your child participate, there is a form in their folder you can send back.

On Aug. 20^th we will have school pictures made, there is an envelope in their folder, if you wish to order pictures. Please send that back any time before that day.

That night we will be having our back to school swim party at Oak Hills. Cost is $5.00 per person and the snack bar will be open.

Welcome back!

We have had a great first day in Kindergarten. We read books, went on a scavenger hunt to learn about the school, and enjoyed making new friends. The kids are excited because their parents have homework tonight. Please complete and return the following:

*Sign page 29 of the student handbook sign, tear out, and return(please keep the book).

*Gold checklist for homework & tardy policy, school discipline policy, PE form, and handbook (please keep the other papers for reference).

*Any medical forms (immunizations, eye form, dental form, allergy forms)

Student homework:

All about me There is an information sheet to explain the all about me person. Please help your child work on these and return by Wednesday. We will share these to help our friends get to know one another.

I have labeled your child’s folder with a ‘keep at home’ tag and ‘return to school’ tag. Anything that needs to be brought back will go on the return side and papers that can be kept will go on the keep side. Please check folders and empty them each night.

Wednesday- art

Thursday-PE (wear tennis shoes)

Friday-PE (wear tennis shoes)

Any notes or paperwork  for school will need to be put back in your child’s folder. I do not check backpacks, only folders.

*Please let me know of transportation changes by writing a note. Transportation tags (around the neck) will be sent home daily for the first few weeks.

Any extra school supplies your child sent and we do not need here at school are being sent back home in their backpacks (we do not use boxes, as I have purchased each child a pencil pouch, we also have a class set of scissors).

School picture day is August 20^th. Envelopes order forms will be sent home at a later date. All students will have a picture made for the yearbook.  

Back to school swim will be August 20^th at 6:00-7:30 @ Oak Hills.
