11-19-18

Kindergarten Update
11-19-18
Phonics: review rules
Science/Social studies: Thanksgiving
Math: analyzing 3D shapes
Sight words: Review all words (back of behavior chart)

ALL BOOK BAGGIES NEED TO BE BROUGHT BACK TOMORROW!!!

Homework: Tonight’s homework is to review all sight words on the behavior chart. Students should just be able to say these quickly. I still have a few who want to sound them out. Make flash cards with these and have students go over them nightly. Another idea would be to make two sets and students could play memory with their sight words.

If you asked for a paper packet for NTI days, those will come home at the end of next week. I will also send home login information and checklist for students who are working on the computer, through Mastery Connect (Symphony math and Lexia Reading will be the two websites we use on NTI days). NTI work should not be completed until an NTI day is called.

Canned food/toy drive is beginning Nov. 26th and will end Friday Nov. 30th. The class who brings in the most items wins a pizza party.
Upcoming events:
Dec. 17th-Winter Wonderland
Dec. 18th-Christmas Program 9:00 and 1:00
Dec. 19th- Polar Express Day for K (we will wear our pjs) and class party 1:30

Kindergarten Update
10-29-18

Phonics rule: sh (shop, push, ship)
Math: ten frames
Reading/Science: Spiders and Bats
Sight words: the, not, you, do, want
Tonight’s homework is word list 3 (reading practice 3). I will reassess on Friday for anyone who did not have 10/10 today. The word ‘the’ is a sight word. Please make sure your child can identify that word. On the reassessment I gave Friday, several students were still unable to tell me that word. You do not have to send the word list back, please keep it at home to review.
* Sight words we are working on are on the back of the behavior chart. Please have your child work each night to memorize those. I recommend keeping a list of the sight words and reviewing them all often. I also added any words that were missed last week. Please go over these  words each night.
*Halloween Carnival is Wednesday. Students may wear costumes to school or bring with them. No props or weapons. Our part of the carnival will be 9:30-10:30 and then we will trick or treat around the school after. Thank you to all those who have volunteered their time or have sent a treat. If you were not contacted, please let me know so I can figure out what has happened and get you informed.
*There is a read to succeed form in your child’s folder. Anytime you read with you child document the book and the time read. After six hours, you can send the from back and you will receive a free Six Flags St. Louis ticket. Those will be handed out in May but the form needs to be turned in my 2-27-19!

book baggies

Book Baggie Reminder

Library books are to be read to the students. There may be words that they can sound out or sight words that they recognize, but for the most part, an adult should be reading that book to the child. We use the library books to check from comprehension and so that students are able to experience someone modeling fluent reading.

Decodable books will either be black and white paper books or a purple book with color pictures. These are smaller books. These books have words that students should be able to blend. They get these books for a longer amount of time, so when they return them on their assigned days, I expect them to be able to read the book without sounding out every word.

The main point of our reading program is that students need to be reading or read to every night.
