Q and U

Q and U will be married on Friday. We discussed today that words that begin with q are followed by u (quiet, queen, quarter, quail). On Friday at 10:40, Mrs. Janet will be officiating a wedding for the two letters to help us remember they go together. Students are encouraged to dress in wedding attire. Ms. Lear will be teaching us wedding dances during PE. Please remember students will still be running during PE so tennis shoes are needed. Since we are unable to invite parents to attend we plan to share our wedding on Facebook at 10:40. Just go to the school Facebook page ‘Fancy Farm Elementary’ and you should be able to see the live video. If for some reason that does not work, we will record for you to watch and I will post that to my class blog. It should only last 5-10 minutes J

I hope everyone had a wonderful Fall Break. The Students were all excited to share things they did last week.

*This week, we will be reviewing the alphabet and moving into blending words next week. I can tell students worked on letters and sounds over the break and a few even earned their galaxy slime today!

*On Wednesday, students will be bringing home a graphic organizer of an animal they would like to create a habitat for. They do not have to do the animal they chose at school, this was just a way to get them thinking about what animals need to survive. These will be due Oct. 21st. The instructions will be on the Wednesday note.

*Friday report cards will be ready. Please know this is a shorter quarter (27 days). A typical quarter is 40 days, so usually there would be more standards assessed. If you see things on the report card that concern you, please let me know.

·       Please only send water in the water bottle. If it is for the lunch box I don’t mind, but the water bottles for their desk need to be only water. We have had a few spills and the colored drinks make a big sticky mess and stain their desk. Thank you.

CLUBS

100 club

Counting to 100 is an important standard in Kindergarten. Once students reach this goal they get to be in the 100 club. At the end of the nine weeks, I will give these students a special treat! Some students are near reaching this goal. On the bottom of your child’s behavior chart you will see a counting goal. I have found that sometimes students have trouble with knowing which ten comes next. Making them stop at the number they are forgetting is a great way to help them focus on that number. For example, if your child gets to 69 but doesn’t know what comes next, their goal is 70. They will stop at 70. Once your child reaches that counting goal I will give them a new goal.

Counting wizards

For students who have met the standard of counting to 100, they have a new goal. I want students to realize that numbers go on forever. I created the counting wizards club a few years ago and had great success with it.  These students will get counting goals above 100. Once we reach 200 and I am confident that students get the trend, they will become counting wizards.

Out of this world Alphabet Kings and Queens

Once students master the letter names and sounds of both capital and lowercase letters, they will join the Alphabet Kings and Queens club. Since knowing all the letter names and sounds makes them out of this world smart, they will earn galaxy slime!

Most importantly, we are learning one letter a day; students should be able to tell me those letters by both name and sound. If your child is struggling with the letter names or sounds, start with the ones we have covered in class first and work towards the rest. You can find the letters we have covered on the Monday note.

Attached to this note, you will find information about counting to 100 and alphabet club. I talked to the kids about this today to encourage them to learn the letters and sounds. I will be checking progress for each student throughout the week.
